...and our perfectly imperfect life.
Hi all,I am not actually Dewey Dewster but his Gram and his Ghost writer....I am the Mom of Baby J and Bean’s Father….the amazing Husband in all of the blog posts. Cloth diapers were a way of life for me when our children were babies. However the cloth diapers we used more than 30 years ago did not even resemble the ones of today. The diapers were white cotton and did not come prefolded or lined either. To keep the kids and their clothing dry required a pair of plastic pants over the diaper. The diapers of old were certainly not a fashion statement like the ones for sale today either but they sure did the trick. They were soft against the skin and they were reusable. Unlike the cloth diapers sold now they were hard to clean out and it took hours of soakings to get out the stains. After the kids were potty trained, the diapers were converted into rags to wash the windows, dust the furniture and clean the floors. I still have a few stray ones left around the house that I baby along as a reminder of days gone by.We weren’t so worried back then about leaving less of a carbon footprint as we were of saving money and avoiding diaper rash and cloth diapers achieved both of those goals. To all of those Moms who make the change, I applaud you!
Thanks, Gram, for sharing your cloth diaper experience. And also for helping us get our cloth diaper "stash"!!! That was the best Christmas gift ever. Yes, I'm serious. I really, really love cloth diapers!
